Sean Connery

Biography

Sir Thomas Sean Connery (August 25, 1930 – October 31, 2020) was a Scottish actor and producer. He won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards (one being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award), and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award. Connery was the first actor to portray the character James Bond in film, starring in seven Bond films (every film from Dr. No to You Only Live Twice, plus Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again), between 1962 and 1983. In 1988, Connery won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Untouchables. His films also include Marnie (1964), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), A Bridge Too Far (1977), Highlander (1986), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), Dragonheart (1996), The Rock (1996), and Finding Forrester (2000). Connery was polled in a 2004 The Sunday Herald as "The Greatest Living Scot" and in a 2011 EuroMillions survey as "Scotland's Greatest Living National Treasure". He was voted by People magazine as both the “Sexiest Man Alive" in 1989 and the "Sexiest Man of the Century” in 1999. He received a lifetime achievement award in the United States with a Kennedy Center Honor in 1999. Connery was knighted in the 2000 New Year Honours for services to film drama. On October 31, 2020, Connery died at the age of 90.

Biography

Spanish film director and producer, born in Zaragoza. He studied law in his hometown and debuted as a film critic in the newspaper El Heraldo de Aragón. In Madrid, he joined the Instituto de Investigaciones y Experiencias Cinematográficas. He exerted great influence on the medium from his teaching at the Escuela Oficial de Cinematografía. In 1967 he founded the production company El Imán, Cine y Televisión, with which he has financed his own projects and those of other filmmakers. Of his personal work, two films stand out: Furtivos (1975), Golden Shell at the San Sebastian Festival and a great success for its opposition to the limits of censorship at the beginning of the Spanish Transition, and Leo (2000), which won the Goya for best director. However, both his initial commissions, such as the spaghetti western Brandy (1964) and the crime film Crimen de doble filo (1965), and the controversial later films Tata mía (1986) and Niño Nadie (1996), have had little repercussion. Between 1994 and 1998 he was president of the Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas de España (Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences). In 2001 he was elected full member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando and in 2002 he was awarded the Premio Nacional de Cinematografía.

Pirkko-Liisa Tikka

Pirkko-Liisa Tikka (née Lampela) is a Finnish soprano opera singer who also appeared in several television series at the height of her fame in the late 1970s and early 80s. She graduated from the opera program at Sibelius Academy in 1973 and is proficient at the piano, viola and drums as well. In addition to frequent performances at the Finnish National Opera, she has also performed at the Royal Swedish Opera and the Berlin State Opera. After an accident, she decided to study acting and work as an actress. Sujit Kumar (7 February 1934 – 5 February 2010), born near a village in Varanasi, was an Indian film actor and producer. He appeared in over 150 Hindi films in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s and 25 films in Bhojpuri. From the late 90s, he latterly concentrated more on production. Kumar was the first superstar of Bhojpuri cinema. He played pivotal roles either as a villain or as a character actor regularly in the most of films with Rajesh Khanna as the hero and in the films directed by Shakti Samanta. His indelible screen image remains of the guy playing the mouth organ while driving a jeep as Rajesh Khanna serenades Sharmila Tagore in the 1969 superhit, Aradhana. Betty Warren (31 October 1907 – 15 December 1990) was a British actress during the 1930s to 1950s, best known for her comedy roles in such films as Champagne Charlie (1944) and Passport to Pimlico (1949). Born Babette Hilda Hogan, in Fareham, Hampshire, England, she appeared in Goody Two Shoes at the Prince's Theatre in Bristol during 1930-31, and in the musical play Balalaika, which opened in London at the Adelphi Theatre on 22 December 1936 and which ran for 569 performances. In 1945 she appeared in the 'musical extravaganza' Magic Carpet at the Princes Theatre in London. Warren's first film appearance was in Magyar Melody in 1939, followed by The Farmer's Wife (1941), Secret Mission (1942), Variety Jubilee (1943), They Met in the Dark (1943), Champagne Charlie (1944) as Bessie Bellwood,The Magic Bow (1946), Passport to Pimlico (1949) with Stanley Holloway, So Long at the Fair (1950), and Tread Softly Stranger (1958). Her television work included three episodes of Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Presents (1953-1954). In 1955 she toured the United Kingdom in the first production of Sandy Wilson's The Buccaneer  Betty Warren died in Yeovil, Somerset, England in 1990 aged 83.

Hilda Isabel Gorrindo Sarli, nicknamed Coca, (9 July 1935 - 25 June 2019) was a retired Argentine actress and glamour model, known for starring in several sexploitation films by Armando Bó, especially in the 1960s and 1970s. She began her career as a model and beauty queen, becoming Miss Argentina and reaching the semi-finalis of Miss Universe 1955. She was discovered by Bó in 1956 and made her acting debut the following year with Thunder Among the Leaves, in which a controversial nude scene featuring Sarli made it the first film to feature full frontal nudity in Argentine cinema. As the muse and protagonist of Bó's films, Sarli became the quintessential sex symbol of her country and a popular figure worldwide. With Bó's death in 1981, Sarli virtually retired from acting. Since the 1990s, her films have been revalued for its camp and kitsch content and are recognised as cult classics.
