Sean Connery

Biography

Sir Thomas Sean Connery (August 25, 1930 - October 31, 2020) was a Scottish actor and producer who won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards (one being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award), and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award. Connery was the first actor to portray the character James Bond in film, starring in seven Bond films (every film from Dr. No to You Only Live Twice, plus Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again), between 1962 and 1983. In 1988, Connery won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Untouchables. His films also include Marnie (1964), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), A Bridge Too Far (1977), Highlander (1986), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), Dragonheart (1996), The Rock (1996), and Finding Forrester (2000). Connery was polled in a 2004 The Sunday Herald as "The Greatest Living Scot" and in a 2011 EuroMillions survey as "Scotland's Greatest Living National Treasure". He was voted by People magazine as both the “Sexiest Man Alive" in 1989 and the "Sexiest Man of the Century” in 1999. He received a lifetime achievement award in the United States with a Kennedy Center Honor in 1999. Connery was knighted in the 2000 New Year Honours for services to film drama. On October 31, 2020, it was announced that Connery had died at the age of 90.

Hugh Herr

Biography

Hugh Herr (born October 25, 1964) is an American rock climber, engineer, and biophysicist. When he was young, both of his legs were amputated below the knee due to an accident during an unexpected blizzard that occurred on a rock climbing trip. After months of surgeries and rehabilitation, Herr began climbing again, using specialized prostheses he designed for himself. He holds the patents to the Rheo Knee, an active ankle-foot orthosis, which is the world's first powered ankle-foot prosthesis.

Jeff Kanew

Biography

​From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.   Jeffrey Roger Kanew (born December 16, 1944) is an American film director, writer and editor who early in his career made trailers for many films of the '70s and is probably best known for directing the film Revenge of the Nerds (1984). Kanew directed Tough Guys (1986), the final film pairing actors Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster. He also directed Douglas in 1983's Eddie Macon's Run and both the stage and film productions of Douglas' autobiographical one-man show Before I Forget (2009). Kanew also directed the documentary Black Rodeo (1972) capturing the events surrounding the first ever performance of an all black rodeo in the neighborhood of Harlem in New York City. Jeff Kanew's son, Justin Kanew, is a reality show contestant from season 15 and season 18 of "The Amazing Race". Lee Charles was born in Birkenhead, Wirral in Merseyside, England. Martial Arts has always been a major factor of his life ever since he first saw a Bruce Lee movie. He began training at 6 years old, first in Shotkan Karate. Before discovering his love for the Martial Arts, Lee had always been very athletic. He was an outstanding football competitor and played for Everton, Tranmere and eventually signed with Wrexham. After suffering an injury however, Lee's contract was terminated. Continuing his training in the Martial Arts, Lee expanded his studies to other styles. He became a six-time World Kickboxing Champion. By 2005, he embarked on his journey to the United States to pursue a career in Hollywood. In West Hollywood, Los Angeles, Lee eventually met with one of his idols, the legendary kickboxer, martial artist, actor and choreographer Benny Urquidez. This meeting began Lee's true path to stardom. Through Benny "The Jet", Lee was invited to the Lee Strasburg Theatre and Film Institute. There, he began his formal training in acting and stunt work. He soon became a member of Benny's stunt team. Debuting in 2008, Lee has worked in films including Dracula Untold (2014), Viking Destiny (2018) and The Marine 6: Close Quarters (2018).

David Chase

Biography

David Henry Chase (born August 22, 1945) is an American writer, producer, and director. He is best known for being the creator, head writer, and executive producer of the HBO drama The Sopranos, which aired for six seasons between 1999 and 2007. Chase has also produced and written for shows such as The Rockford Files, I'll Fly Away, and Northern Exposure. He created the original series Almost Grown which aired for 10 episodes in 1988 and 1989. He has won seven Emmy Awards. Chase's film debut came in 2012 with Not Fade Away, followed by The Many Saints of Newark (2021), a prequel film to the TV series The Sopranos.

Dan Lambert

Biography

Lambert grew up in the community of St. Malo, in southeastern Manitoba, and played his minor hockey in St. Malo, Steinbach, and Ste. Anne. He played one season of high school hockey in Warroad, Minnesota, before joining the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League as a 16-year-old in 1986. Midway into his first season with the Broncos, the team bus was involved in a fatal crash that claimed the lives of four Broncos players (Lambert was not on the bus). Lambert recalls playing through the grief that season and making the playoffs as his proudest hockey memory. Two seasons later, he scored an incredible 102 points in just 57 regular-season games. The Broncos went on to win the Memorial Cup that season; Lambert was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. His 244 career assists stand as a franchise record. Lambert was drafted 106th overall by the Quebec Nordiques in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. From 1990 to 1992, Lambert split his time between the Fort Wayne Komets of the International Hockey League, Halifax Citadels of the American Hockey League, and Nordiques. He played a total of 29 games for the Nordiques, scoring 15 points. In June 1992, Lambert was traded to the Winnipeg Jets and spent the entire 1992-93 season with the Moncton Hawks, their AHL affiliate. Lambert did not play a game in the NHL that season and decided to leave to play in Finland after the season ended. He played only 13 games there before returning to North American to play for the Komets in 1993-94. In 1994, Lambert joined the San Diego Gulls of the IHL. The team played one season in San Diego before moving to Los Angeles for one season and finally settling in Long Beach, California to become the Long Beach Ice Dogs. During his five seasons with the franchise, Lambert was one of IHL's premier defensemen, scoring 308 points in 353 games. He was named an all-star four times and received the Governor's Trophy as the league's top defenceman in 1998. He also led all defencemen in scoring twice. Lambert signed a contract with the Krefeld Pinguine of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga in 1999, helping the Sharks win the Spengler Cup that season. After one season in Cologne, he played three with the Krefeld Pinguine, one with the Hamburg Freezers and five with the Hannover Scorpions. Lambert helped lead Krefeld to a DEL championship in 2003. Lambert retired from professional hockey in 2009.

Harry Fleer (March 26, 1916 – October 14, 1994) was an American actor. He appeared in more than sixty films and television shows between 1955 and 1994. Fleer was cast six times from 1957 to 1960 on the syndicated television anthology series, Death Valley Days, hosted by Stanley Andrews. In "The Camel Train" (1957), he played Secretary of War Jefferson Davis, who commissions an experiment of using camels in the southwestern desert country headed by Lieutenant Edward Fitzgerald Beale, played by Stanley Lachman. Later, he was Wyatt Earp in "Birth of a Boom" (1958).

Linda Batista

Biography

Linda Batista, born Florinda Grandino de Oliveira (June 14, 1919 – April 18, 1988) was a Brazilian popular musician. Linda was born in São Paulo, the sister of Dircinha Batista. She studied violão (classical guitar) from age 12 under Patricio Teixeira. She was hired at Radio Cajuti (later Rádio Mundial) in Rio de Janeiro after substituting for her sister on composer Gastão Lamounier's show in 1932. By 1937 she had been named Brazil's Rainha do Rádio (Queen of Radio) in a contest voted on by listeners, a title first held by Carmen Miranda. Batista married and quickly divorced in the late 1930s. Her first recordings were released in 1938. Around this time she also began appearing in films such as Maridinho de Luxo and Banana da Terra. She sang on Rádio Cultura Brasil [pt] in São Paulo and then appeared at Casino São Vicente on Ilha Porchat for six months. She returned to Rio de Janeiro in 1939 and was hired at the Cassino da Urca, singing with the Kolman Orchestra. She remained there until the casinos were closed in 1945 by state decree. She signed to Victor Records in 1940, and would record for the label until her retirement in 1960. Batista toured throughout Brazil in the early and mid-1940s, scoring many nationwide hits such as "Tudo é Brasil" (1941), "Batuque No Morro" (1941), "Clube Dos Barrigudos" (1944), "No Boteco Do José" (1946), "Enlouqueci" (1948), "Nega Maluca" (1950), and "Vingança" (1951). Batista did extensive work for films throughout the 1950s. In 1951, she embarked on a tour of Portugal, France, and Italy. She toured Uruguay in 1957-58 and Argentina in 1959. Omar Rafael Chaparro Alvídrez (Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico; November 26, 1974), better known by his stage name Omar Chaparro, is a Mexican comedian, actor, comedian, singer, composer, producer, lecturer and radio and television host. He is known for creating and performing his humorous characters in his radio and television programs where he is also a host, for acting in several Mexican and Mexican-American films and for his double starring role in Netflix's musical comedy film, in tribute to Pedro Infante, Como caído del cielo (Like Fallen from the Sky). In addition to being mostly recognized in the Latin dubbing world as the Spanish voice of the panda "Po" in the movie Kung Fu Panda and its continuations. He also established himself as a singer and has recorded two albums, among them, is his outstanding album entitled Me enamoré de ti, which included his three hits "Sigues tan hermosa", "Me enamoré de ti" and "Aferrado".
