Eurico Ângelo de Oliveira Miranda, better known as Eurico Miranda, was a Brazilian politician, jurist and sporting top hat. He was the best known president in the history of Vasco da Gama, serving four times, from 2001 to 2003, 2004 to 2006, 2007 to 2008, and from 2015 to 2018. He was also vice president of football at the club between 1990 and 2000, having participated in the period of greatest achievements of the club, such as the 1997 Brazilian Championship, 1998 Copa Libertadores, 2000 João Havelange Cup and 2000 Mercosur Cup.

Eric Losfeld

Biography

Éric Losfeld (Mouscron, 1922 – Paris, 1979) was a Belgian-born French publisher who had a reputation for publishing controversial material with his publishing imprint Éditions Le Terrain Vague. He was the publisher of Emmanuelle (1967), two film magazines (Midi Minuit Fantastique and Positif) founded by Ado Kyrou. He published a series of controversial erotic cult comic books, like Barbarella, created by Jean-Claude Forest, Scarlett Dream by Robert Gigi, Epoxy by Paul Cuvelier and Jean van Hamme, the French edition of Phoebe Zeit-Geist, The Adventures of Jodelle and Pravda, both by Guy Peellaert. In 1967, he also published legendary psychedelic feminist comic book Saga de Xam by Jean Rollin. In 1970, Xiris by Serge San Juan. And Kris Kool by Caza. Losfeld's tombstone inscription reads, "Tout ce qu'il éditait avait le souffle de la liberté." ("Everything he edited had the breath of freedom."). Bruce Lee

Biography

Bruce Jun Fan Lee (Lee Siu Lung) was born on November 27, 1940 in San Francisco, CA while his parents were on tour with the Chinese Opera. Ultimately raised in Hong Kong, Bruce Lee was a child actor appearing in more than 20 films. At the age of 13, Bruce took up the study of wing chun gung fu under renowned wing chun master, Yip Man. Bruce left Hong Kong at the age of 18, came to the United States and made his way to Seattle, Washington where he worked in the restaurant of a family friend. He soon enrolled in the University of Washington where he pursued a degree in philosophy. Bruce began to teach gung fu in Seattle and soon opened his first school, the Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute. Two more schools followed in Oakland and Los Angeles. Concurrently Bruce married his wife, Linda and had his two children, Brandon and Shannon. In the mid sixties, Bruce was discovered while doing an exhibition at the Long Beach Internationals and a role as Kato in the tv series The Green Hornet soon followed. During this time, Bruce was also developing his own martial art, which he ultimately named Jeet Kune Do (translated: the way of the intercepting fist). Bruce's art was steeped in a philosophical foundation and did not follow long held martial traditions. Instead it had at its core the ideas of simplicity, directness and personal freedom. After The Green Hornet series was canceled, Bruce encountered resistance while working in Hollywood and so headed to Hong Kong to pursue a film career. In Hong Kong he made 3 films, which consecutively broke all box office records and showcased martial arts in an entirely new way. Hollywood took notice and soon Bruce was making the first Hollywood / Hong Kong coproduction with a film called Enter the Dragon. Unfortunately, Bruce Lee died in 1973 before this film was released. This film catapulted him to international fame. Today Bruce Lee’s legacy of self expression, equality, and pioneering innovation continues to inspire people all around the world.

Rhys Mathewson

Biography

Comedian Rhys Mathewson is the youngest winner of both the Billy T Award and Fred Award. After participating in Class Comedians at age 15, in 2006, he knew he wanted a career in comedy, saying “as soon as I stepped off the stage for the first time I knew I as going to do this my entire life”. Three years later he won Best Newcomer for his first solo show in the NZICF, The Best $18 You’ll Ever Spend. The next year, 2010, saw his Billy T win – Mathewson was just 19 years old, the youngest person ever to be awarded the coveted yellow towel. Soon Mathewson started performing overseas, including in Chortle Fast Fringe at the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and on television, in TV3’s Hounds. He also continues to make standup shows for the NZICF and in 2016 became the youngest winner of the Fred Award for Best New Zealand Show.

Matt Lauer

Matthew Todd Lauer ( born December 30, 1957) is a former American television news personality, best known for his work with NBC News. After serving as a local news personality in New York City on WNBC, his first national exposure was as the news anchor for The Today Show from 1994 to 1997. In 1997, he was moved from the news desk to the host's chair, and served as the co-host of NBC's Today show from 1997 to 2017. He was also a frequent contributor for the evening news magazine Dateline NBC. With NBC, Lauer hosted the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and co-hosted the opening ceremonies of several Olympic Games. Following allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior, Lauer's contract was terminated by NBC in November 2017 after the network reported receiving "a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace" and added that the network had "reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident".

Adnan Bin Abdul Kareem Ahmed Alkaissy El Farthie (Arabic: عدنان بن عبدالكريم أحمد القيسي ألفرث‎), better known professionally as Adnan Al-Kaissie, is an Iraqi former professional wrestler and manager best known as Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissey, Billy White Wolf, or General Adnan. In 1971 he defeated André the Giant in Al-Shaab Stadium in Baghdad, under the auspices of his former friend at high school Saddam Hussein. He competed in WWE. On December 7, 1976, he won the WWE World tag team championship with Chief Jay Strongbow. In 1981, Adnan Al-Kaissie joined the American Wrestling Association (AWA), in 1990 he joined WWE, where he managed Sgt. Slaughter under the name "General Adnan". He competed at WWE SummerSlam '91 with his partners Sgt. Slaughter and Col. Mustafa in a Handicap match with Sid Justice as special guest referee against Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior.

Micheline Lanctôt

Micheline Lanctôt (born May 12, 1947) is a Canadian actress, film director, screenwriter, and musician. Lanctôt was born in Frelighsburg, Quebec. Her post-secondary education was in music, fine arts, and theatre at Collège Jésus-Marie in Outremont, and in art history at the Université de Montréal and the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal; she later studied film animation at the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and then at Gerald Potterton's studios, Potterton Productions, where she remained for four years. Lanctôt began her acting career in 1972, winning a Canadian Film Award for Best Actress for her starring role in Gilles Carle's The True Nature of Bernadette (La vraie nature de Bernadette). Since then, she has appeared in a wide variety of film and television roles, such as Carle's The Heavenly Bodies (Les Corps Célestes), Ted Kotcheff's award-winning The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, Claude Chabrol's Blood Relatives and Guy Fournier's Radio-Canada TV series Jamais deux sans toi. She has directed for the theatre also, directing Oleanna by David Mamet for the Théâtre de Quat'Sous in Montreal in 1994, and in 1999, Bousille et les justes by Gratien Gélinas for the Théâtre du Rideau Vert. She began her live-action film-directing career with The Handyman (L'Homme à tout faire) (1980), nominated for best direction and for best film at the Genie Awards in 1981. This success was followed by Sonatine (1984), which launched the career of Pascale Bussières and won both the Genie Award for Best Director at the 6th Genie Awards in 1985, and the now-defunct Silver Lion for Best First Film (1983-1987) at the 41st Venice International Film Festival. Since 1982, Lanctôt has been a part-time instructor in the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University. Lanctôt defended Gaétan Soucy's novel The Little Girl Who Was Too Fond of Matches (La petite fille qui aimait trop les allumettes) in the 2004 edition of Le Combat des livres, broadcast on Première Chaîne. In 2016 she was the curator of the Festival Vues dans la tête de... film festival in Rivière-du-Loup. She is also a matron of the Prix collégial du cinéma québécois, an annual program engaging film studies students in Quebec CEGEPs to present an award for the year's best Quebec film.
