Sean Connery

Biography

Sir Thomas Sean Connery (August 25, 1930 - October 31, 2020) was a Scottish actor and producer who won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards (one being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award), and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award. Connery was the first actor to portray the character James Bond in film, starring in seven Bond films (every film from Dr. No to You Only Live Twice, plus Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again), between 1962 and 1983. In 1988, Connery won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Untouchables. His films also include Marnie (1964), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), A Bridge Too Far (1977), Highlander (1986), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), Dragonheart (1996), The Rock (1996), and Finding Forrester (2000). Connery was polled in a 2004 The Sunday Herald as "The Greatest Living Scot" and in a 2011 EuroMillions survey as "Scotland's Greatest Living National Treasure". He was voted by People magazine as both the “Sexiest Man Alive" in 1989 and the "Sexiest Man of the Century” in 1999. He received a lifetime achievement award in the United States with a Kennedy Center Honor in 1999. Connery was knighted in the 2000 New Year Honours for services to film drama. On October 31, 2020, it was announced that Connery had died at the age of 90.

Pierre-André Boutang

Biography

Pierre-André Boutang, born March 25, 1937, in Paris and died August 20, 2008, in Grosseto-Prugna, Corsica, was a French documentary filmmaker, producer, and director. He was one of the directors of the Franco-German channel Arte, after previously being one of the directors of La Sept. A major figure in French television, Pierre-André Boutang, producer, director, programmer, and interviewer, knew how to combine intelligence and a broad audience through films and documentary series for ORTF since the 1960s. Throughout his long career, Pierre-André Boutang explored the worlds of literature, film, and television while fostering intellectual debate. The son of philosopher Pierre Boutang, he was first a student at the Institute of Political Studies before becoming an assistant director for film and television. From 1962 to 1967, Pierre-André Boutang was responsible for selecting films for television, and later became a producer and director of numerous films and television series ("Les Écrans de la Ville," "Le Journal du Cinéma," "Cinéregards," "Champ Contre Champ"). He also wrote numerous articles for "Dim Dam Dom," a scathing program from the days of ORTF. From 1967 to 1986, he produced several programs such as "Le Nouveau dimanche," "L'invité du dimanche," "L'homme en question," "Désir des arts," "Projection privée," "Bibliothèque de poche," "Archives du XXe siècle," and then "Océaniques" for FR3, where he produced profiles of Fidel Castro, Martin Heidegger, and Louis Althusser. The magazine was awarded a 7 d'Or in 1987 and 1988. Television also owes him major series of interviews co-produced with Jean Rouch, including "Mémoires du XXe siècle," featuring portraits of Gilles Deleuze (3 DVDs from Editions Montparnasse) and Pierre Vidal-Naquet, as well as "Sartre par lui-même," in which the philosopher spoke about his work for three hours. At the same time, he produced films for the cinema by Jean Yanne, Marco Ferreri, Robert Bresson, and Alexandre Astruc's Sartre par lui-même, as well as Otar Iosseliani's Les Favoris de la lune. He is the author of a biography of Roman Polanski. In 1990, invited by historian Georges Duby to work for Sept, the cultural television channel that later became Arte, he was appointed Deputy Director of Programming under Jérôme Clément and launched the cultural magazine "Océanopolis." Pierre-André Boutang, the initiator of numerous "Thema" programs that contributed to the channel's success, also created the channel's cultural magazine, "Metropolis," for which he was editor-in-chief for France from 1995 to 2006. For eighteen years, Pierre-André Boutang had become a pillar of Arte. The Franco-German channel broadcast his documentaries such as "The ABCs of Gilles Deleuze," "13 Days in the Life of Picasso," "Alexander Solzhenitsyn," "Depardieu, the View of Others," "Mao, a Chinese Story," and, most recently, "Jeanne M," a portrait of Jeanne Moreau, and "Claude Levi-Strauss by Himself."

Chris was raised in Victoria BC. He has a BFA from the University of Victoria, and now resides in Toronto Ontario. Though Peter N’ Chris keeps Chris busy enough, he works in Toronto as a comedian and writer, working with Bad Dog Theatre Company and performing weekly shows with Canadian Comedy Award winning Sketch Troupe “Get Some”. Sergio Garrone

Biography

Sergio Garrone (15 April 1925 – 12 July 2023) was an Italian director, screenwriter and film producer. Born in Rome, the brother of the actor Riccardo, Garrone began his career in 1948 working as assistant director, documentary filmmaker, and production assistant. In 1953, he abandoned the cinema industry, but in 1965 he resurfaced as a producer of low-budget genre films. Starting from 1968, Garrone was also active as a director and a screenwriter, specializing in the Spaghetti Western genre. He was usually credited as Willy S. Regan. Garrone died in July 2023, at the age of 98.

Martin Parry studied cinematography at Bournemouth film school in the late eighties. After graduating in 1991 he began his career shooting pop promos and commercials for various London production companies. He has shot films in Europe, Asia and North America - worked on feature films with Dougray Scott, Rutger Hauer and Jürgen Prochnow. Martin has also worked in Hollywood shooting on the Culver City studio lot and travelled extensively filming documentaries in Vietnam and Cambodia. In 2009 he formed a production company in Berlin with film school colleague Alex Ross. Their remit is to produce films reflecting contemporary life in the 21st century. Their first film ‘Tom Atkins Blues’ has been distributed in cinemas throughout Germany. Shirin Neshat ( شیرین نشاط‎, born March 26, 1957 Qazvin) is an Iranian visual artist who lives in New York City, known primarily for her work in film, video and photography. Her artwork centers on the contrasts between Islam and the West, femininity and masculinity, public life and private life, antiquity and modernity, and bridging the spaces between these subjects. Since Iran has undermined basic human rights, particularly since the Islamic Revolution she has said that she has "gravitated toward making art that is concerned with tyranny, dictatorship, oppression and political injustice. Although I don’t consider myself an activist, I believe my art – regardless of its nature – is an expression of protest, a cry for humanity.” Neshat has been recognized countless times for her work, from winning the International Award of the XLVIII Venice Biennale in 1999, to winning the Silver Lion for best director at the 66th Venice Film Festival in 2009, to being named Artist of the Decade by Huffington Post critic G. Roger Denson. Neshat is a critic in the photography department at the Yale School of Art.

Stephanie Kutty

Biography

Stephanie is a theatrically trained Actress from Australia. Her story is very unique; as she was born and raised in the Fiji Islands to a Fijian, Indian, Irish father and a Burmese mother; and moved to Australia at the age of 11. In her early days, Stephanie performed shows as part of primary school including dance and stage. But having strict parents, meant she did not pursue her proper theatrical training until her final year of study at the University of Sunshine Coast. Stephanie was only 20 years old when she completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science whilst gaining a Talent-Based Scholarship to study at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles, whose alumni include Aubrey Plaza, (Parks and Rec) and Chord Overstreet, GLEE. Although only 8 weeks intensive; Stephanie got to work with distinguished faculty members including Suzanne Kent, founder of The Groundlings and Ros Gentle, known for "The People Vs OJ Simpson" and highly anticipated "Picnic at Hanging Rock" along side Natalie Dormer. Three years later, she auditioned and landed full time study at New York Film Academy on the Gold Coast, Australia. In the intensive two year course of Advanced Diploma in Screen and Media (Acting for Film). Stephanie has been privileged to work on both local and international films, national commercials, stage and television. Stephanie's most recent work includes NBC's YOUNG ROCK starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Hollywood Fringe Festival presenting "Romeo and Juliet; Virtually Live" and Steve Jaggi's "Dog Days of Christmas". Stephanie had also worked on THOR: RAGNAROK staring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Jeff Goldblum and Cate Blanchett and closely with Daniel Radcliffe in JUNGLE, the true story of Yossi Ghinsberg, an adventurer who gets lost in the Bolivian jungle which was filmed in Australia. Stephanie's television credits include SCHAPPELLE telemovie starring Krew Boylan with Vince Colosimo and US comedy series CAMP (starring Rachel Griffiths). Stephanie has also performed with Monette Lee known for Australia's favorite TV Series HOME AND AWAY and HEARTBEAT in their original play SECOND HAND which showcased at the SHORT and SWEET Festival. Some of her other key credits include a National commercial for Flight Centre's BEST IN EVERYWHERE which was broadcast throughout the RIO Summer Olympics 2016. In addition to her film credits, Stephanie has has won MISS UNIVERSITY AUSTRALIA in 2010 as voted by the public and been placed in the Top 10 for MISS HUMANITY AUSTRALIA in 2013.
