Carmelita Geraghty

Biography

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Carmelita Geraghty (March 21, 1901 – July 7, 1966) was an American film actress and painter. Born in Rushville, Indiana to screenwriter Thomas J. Geraghty, she started her film career as an extra in the early 1920s before being selected as one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars of 1924. She soon became a leading actress, including a co-starring role with Virginia Valli in The Pleasure Garden (1925), the first film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. She also played golfer Jordan Baker in the first film version of The Great Gatsby (1926) and starred alongside Clara Bow in My Lady of Whims (1925). When the age of sound dawned, Geraghty's career slowed. Her last role was in the re-released independent Western Phantom of Santa Fe (1936). She became a very accomplished artist about ten years after leaving motion pictures. In the last years of her life, her artwork was put on display at the Weil Gardens in Paris. Geraghty was married to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer writer and producer Carey Wilson from 1934 until his death in 1962. On July 7, 1966, she died of a heart attack at the Lombardy Hotel in Manhattan, aged 65. She is interred in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Hollywood, California.

Derek Martin

Biography

Derek Martin was one of the most authentic working class voices in British film and television since the 1970s. Born Derek William Rapp in 1933, Martin was in the RAF for his National Service and took up a series of jobs including road worker, Smithfield Meat Market porter, and professional gambler, before entering showbusiness as an extra and stunt performer in a variety of programmes including Doctor Who. He retired from stunt work following an injury on Elizabeth I in 1971 and moved into acting. His most famous break out role was as the corrupt detective Fred Pyle in GF Newman's controversial 1978 drama Law & Order. In the following decade Martin had major roles in TV dramas such as The Chinese Detective and King & Castle, and played James Cagney's aide in milos Forman's epic 1981 film Ragtime. In 2000, Martin joined the cast of EastEnders as Charlie, the patriarch of the Slater family, a role he continued to play on and off for sixteen years.

Ahindra Choudhury

Ahindra Choudhury (1896-1974) was an Indian actor, director, theatre personality, and co-founder of Photo Play Syndicate, a Kolkata-based art organization for bioscope shows. A winner of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1958, Choudhury was honored by the Government of India in 1963 with the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest Indian civilian award, for his services to the nation. His foray into the movie world was in 1931 with Hrishir Prem, a Jyotish Bandopadhyay film. He retired from acting with Shahjahan, a drama staged on 11 September 1957 at Minerva Theatre, Kolkata. Years later, he appeared in one more film, Shravan Sandhya, in 1974.[8] He acted in 89 films, wrote a screenplay for his maiden venture, Soul of a Slave, and directed two films.

Sir Thomas Sean Connery (August 25, 1930 - October 31, 2020) was a Scottish actor and producer who won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards (one being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award), and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. In 1988, Connery won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Untouchables. On October 31, 2020, it was announced that Connery had died at the age of 90.
